Make a Call Using the Gmail Call Phone Feature
To use the Google Voice communications service on your OBi, you must have made at least one call from your Gmail account's "Call Phone" feature. To do this, sign-in to Gmail at: www.gmail.com and place a call from your computer's browser with the Gmail "Call Phone" function located on the lower left side of the Gmail window.

Add the OBi Device to Your OBiTALK Portal Account
When you log-in to OBiTALK you will be able add your OBi device to your OBi Dashboard. When you do this, you will be guided through a process that links your OBi device to your OBiTALK account. After successfully adding the device, you will be presented with a Device Configuration screen, with which you can configure things like Device Name, Time Zone & VoIP Services.

Ensure You Are Using the Most Up-to-Date Software
From time to time, when you visit the OBi Dashboard, you may see a yellow triangle with an exclamation point inside next to the configuration cog-wheel icon.  This symbol indicates there is a firmware update available for the OBi.  To perform an automatic update, click on the yellow triangle. Select OK when the Update Confirmation box appears.  During the update process, a message will be displayed on the screen alerting you to the status of the update and a warning to NOT remove power to the OBi device during the update process. Alternatively, from the phone attached to the OBi, you can dial ***6 and the OBi Attendant will notify you if a software update is available.

"Backing Off" & "Connected" Status Indications
After you configure Google Voice via the OBiTALK "Configure Voice Services" wizard, you will see the following status indicators: Connected or Backing off.
Backing Off:
The status indicator, "Backing off" means the OBi is not connecting to Google Voice. Check the following to fix this issue:
a. Be sure to check and see if your OBi has the most up-to-date software. To check, dial ***6 from the phone connected to the OBi. The announcement will let you know if there is an update. If there is, press 1 and hang-up. Your OBi will automatically update and restart in about 2-3 minutes. Alternatively, if you are logged-in to OBiTALK and see a yellow triangle to the right of your OBi device, you may click on the yellow triangle to start the automatic update.
b. The Google account user name that you are using for the OBi configuration is not the Primary email address in your Google Account settings. To check your Google account's Primary email address, go to Account Settings and verify the email address shown as the "Primary email" is the same email address you are using with the OBiTALK Google Voice set-up. Click Here for more.
c. You have not yet made a call with Gmail's Call Phone feature because you do not have a Gmail account. Click on the "Gmail" or "Mail" link in the top-left corner of the GV web-page. From there, you will be prompted to create a Gmail account. This is a required step in case you don't have Gmail account associated with the GV account. After you complete the Gmail sign-up, please check the primary email on the Google Account, and enter the primary email (likely to be …@gmail.com) to your OBi device configuration. Click Here for more. Also, remember to check the Forwards to: Google Chat option in your Google Voice Settings Phones Tab.
d. You are using 2-Step Verification. Click Here for more information on how enable your OBi with Google Voice when the Google account uses 2-step verification.
Connected:
The status indicator, "Connected" means your Username and Password used to configure the OBi are correct. You can start using the Google Voice service with your OBi device.

Calling with the OBi (Primary Line to Call Out)
By default, OBi devices which come with an analog (PSTN) line port will use this as the Primary Line for outbound calls. This means that when you make a new call using the OBi Attendant, you do not need to first dial a service route access code. Up to two (2) Google Voice or SIP-based based VoIP services can be added to an OBi. You can make one of these services the Primary Line for outbound calls. The OBiTALK Service Provider set-up screen gives the user the option to select either service 1 or 2 as the Primary Line.
When you want to make a call via a service that is not the Primary Line, dial that service's access code before the destination number.
The service route access codes are defined as:
** 1 : Voice Service Provider 1 (Google Voice or SIP)
** 2 : Voice Service Provider 2 (Google Voice or SIP)
** 8 : LINE Port (PSTN) Service Provider (OBi110 only)
** 9 : OBiTALK Network

Receiving Incoming Calls to Your Google Voice Number
When someone calls your Google Voice number, if you are unable to receive call on the phone attached to your OBi device's PHONE port, check the "Forwards to: Google Chat" setting, in the Google Voice, Voice Settings, "Phones" tab.

Turning Off Google Voice Call Screening
If you do not want callers to be greeted by the Google Voice call screening service, you will need to turn off Call Screening in the Google Voice Settings: Calls tab. Disable Call Screening by selecting the "Off" button. Select "Confirm" AND be sure to select "Save Changes" at the bottom of the page. If this is set to "On," then callers who call your Google Voice number will be greeted by Google's call screening service, instead of immediately passing the call to your OBi device and ringing the analog handset.

My OBi Does Not Ring
Possible causes for this are:
• In www.google.com/voice (Voice settings), "Forwards to: Google Chat" is not checked. See here for more.
• You are using the 'Talkatone' or 'GrooVe IP' app on your Apple or Android smart phone device. When the app is running, it interferes with the OBi device's ability to receive calls. To receive calls on the OBi, the app MUST be removed from your smart phone.
• The caller is using a phone that was used to authenticate this OBi device's Google Voice account. The symptom is the caller will always go to Google Voice voicemail and never ring the OBi's phone. The solution is:
   1. Go to Google Voice voice settings. The Voice settings
selection is available from the top-right corner "gear" icon.
   2. From the "Phones" tab, select "Edit" on the phone from
       which you are calling.
   3. Select "Show advanced settings."
   4. Select "No" for "Voicemail Access."
   5. Select "Save" at the bottom of the page.

Non-@Gmail Account Usernames (More Information on this Topic Here)
You may use a non-@Gmail account username with Google Voice on an OBi device, but the following two conditions must be met:
1. The email used to configure your OBi must be the Primary Email for the Google account.
2. You must be able to log in to Gmail with this Primary email address / username and make a call using the Gmail "Call phone" feature.
Primary Email:
To use Google Voice on an OBi, the account username used to configure the OBi must be listed as the "Primary Email" username in your Google Account's Personal Settings.
You may verify this username by logging-in here. When you log-in you will land on your Google Account Management Settings page. Here, you can see your Google account profile Personal Settings. In the Personal Settings section, you will see the "Email addresses" associated with your Google account. Also, you will see which Email address is your "Primary Email" address.
Log-in to Gmail with Primary Email & Make a Call:
To use Google Voice with an OBi device you must have Gmail email access using the same Google account name you use with the OBi device configuration. Here's how to verify you are using the correct Google account name with your OBi:
- Log-in at: www.google.com/voice
- In the top-left corner, click the Gmail link.
By doing this, you are accessing Google Gmail using your non-Gmail-address as the account username. If you have not set-up Gmail with this account username, you will be prompted to do so.
Once you have accessed Gmail with your non-@gmail account username go to www.gmail.com, then click on the 'Call phone' feature and make a call to any phone number. You must do this at least once to enable calling with your OBi device.

Google 2-Step Verification
If you have enabled Google 2-step verification for Gmail, please follow these instructions so that you will be able to use your OBi and Google Voice.
• Log in to your Google Account Management Settings page .
• Select the, "Authorizing applications & sites" link.
• Create an application specific password for Google Voice.
• Use this password when you configure Google Voice as a service on your OBi device.
Please note: The Google Voice voicemail notification does not work for users who have 2-Step verification. With that, it is recommended you disable Google Voice voicemail notification on the OBi device via the OBiTALK Device Configuration settings.

GV Voicemail Notification & Missed Calls
When you enable Google Voice voicemail notification on your OBi, you should be sure to not check the "Place missed calls in the inbox" box. Otherwise, whenever there is a missed call, the phone attached to the OBi will signal (visual and stutter dial tone) an unheard voicemail. The Missed Calls setting can be found in the Google Voice Settings: Calls tab.

After You Dial, You Hear a Female Voice Say: "We can not complete your call."
This is not an issue with your OBi device. Most likely, this is a temporary service interruption where Google Voice is unable to connect your call. You may try your call again later.

After You Dial, You Hear a Voice Say: "There is no service available to complete your call."
If this is happening, please do the following:
• Log-in to the OBiTALK portal.
• From the OBi Dashboard select your OBi device.
• Check if the status of the OBi device's "Service Provider 1". If Google Voice, then the status should show "Connected". If it does not, make sure it is configured with the correct username/password combination. See here for more.

After You Dial, You Hear a Voice Say: "The number you dialed #####, was rejected by the service provider."
• This could be because you dialed a wrong or invalid number. Is the number valid?
• If the voice also says "... Reason is 404," and you are calling an OBiTALK OBi No., check that your OBi device is online by placing a test call to: **9 222 222 222. If the OBiTALK echo service call does not go through, please check your Internet connection to the OBi.
• If you are calling via a VoIP Service Provider account, check that the device's status shows "Registered" in the OBiTALK portal. If it is not Registered, check the OBi device's Internet connection, then ensure the service account credentials are correct.

The OBi is Using openDNS & the Google Voice Status Always Says "Backing Off"
You cannot use openDNS with the OBi. To workaround this issue, please do the following:
• Modify the DNSServer1 parameter value by accessing the OBi's web page.
• Select System Management from the left-side navigation menu
• Select Network Settings
• Locate the parameter called: DNSServer1
• Make DNSServer1 = 4.2.2.2 (This is a free public DNS server)
• Select Submit to save and Reboot the OBi
The OBi should no longer show Backing Off.

How Do I Perform a Factory Reset?
Complete the first 6-steps to perform a factory reset on an OBi device.
Then, perform the bottom 5-steps to ensure your service comes back on-line.
1. Unplug the power cord.
2. With a paper clip (or similar) depress the reset pin located in the back of the OBi.
3. Plug-in the power cord. First, the Power LED will turn red, then become sold green.
Keep depressing the reset pin while this is occurring.
4. After 10 seconds, the Power LED will start to flash green (slowly).
You may now release the reset pin.
5. Within 5 seconds, the Power led will start to flash green rapidly for about 3 seconds.
6. Next the Power LED will change to red briefly indicating the OBi is now rebooting.
The factory reset is done!
7. Next, you will need to log-in to the OBiTALK web portal.
8. Select the OBi device on which you just performed the reset.
9. Select the applicable link for the Service Provider 1 or Service Provider 2 set-up.
10. Enter your Gmail username and password in the fields provided.
11. Select 'Submit' and wait 1-2 minutes to test a call.

Why is a Stutter Dial Tone Heard When I Lift the Phone Handset?
A stutter dial tone is played by the OBi to indicate there is at least one new or unheard voice mail. This audible indication is activated on the OBi by the VoIP Service Provider. Typically, to check voice mail from the phone connected to the OBi, you can dial your own phone number to be connected to the service provider's voice mail system.
Note: If you use two (2) Google Voice numbers configured on your OBi's SP1 and SP2 service, to check voice mail, dial Google Voice number 1 to check its voicemail. Dial **2 and Google Voice number 2 to check its voicemail. Also, please be sure to un-check, "Place missed calls in the inbox." (Click for More)
